The primary responsibility of this position is to provide both analytical chemistry and material processing support during the execution of the physical and chemical experiments aimed at fulfilling the agreed H2CIRC project objectives, in conjunction with R&D management and, in accordance with Heraeus Holding management principles.

Your role and responsibilities:

  • Works with manager and senior staff to create and/or modify analytical methods, assures all methods are properly documented and managed according to Heraeus policies.
  • Prepares analytical samples and performs elemental and spectroscopic analyses according to written procedures, manages several concurrent analyses as required while ensuring proper labeling, scheduling, storing and disposition of samples.
  • Physically processes and samples up to 40lb batches of materials to be recycled using a variety of process equipment including, but not limited to, shredders, cutting mills, sieves, and sample dividers.
  • Chemically and physically separates up to 20L batches of materials to be recycled using a variety of process equipment including, but not limited to, autoclaves, pressure filters, and centrifuges. Ensures proper labeling, storing and disposition of all end products.
  • Keeps all equipment in functional operating condition, clean and available.  Monitors equipment and supply needs and promptly informs manager or senior staff of action to ensure uninterrupted workflow.
  • Maintains accurate and secure records of all experimental data, project spending and time spent on project.
  • Works with senior staff to assure departments’ adherence to quality, safety and environmental standards that exceed industry minimums.
  • Understands job safety requirements and always follows safety and PPE guidelines.
  • Assist others with training or method explanation as directed by manager or senior staff.
  • Is responsible for the reduction of accidents (occupational, reportable, recordable, and minor) in the department to zero.
  • Perform other tasks deemed necessary as assigned by laboratory or company management.

What is required for this role:

  • B.S in Chemistry (M.S. preferred) or a related field.
  • 3+ years’ experience in Analytical Chemistry, preferably in Precious Metals analysis. Experience must include ICP, experience with FTIR and/or IC advantageous.
  • Some experience in kilo-lab environment helpful, but not necessary.
