“Weights clanging - a normal day at the gym. I'm pedaling my bike when I strike up a conversation with another athlete. He tells me about his knee and how an implant has given him back pain-free movement. “Show me your implant card!” I ask him curiously. He hesitates briefly, but then pulls the little card out of his pocket. And lo and behold, it says Heraeus on it.
What I learned from my grandfather
Actually, I don't have to go that far. My grandfather is a man with a passion for sports, and he also has a knee prosthesis. When I told him many years ago that I wanted to start my professional career in an analytical laboratory, he winked and called me a “poison mixer.” Today, he certainly sees things differently. With his implant, which is fixed with bone cement from Heraeus, he can continue to be active. He can romp around with his great-grandchildren and even participate in a league.
A job that makes sense. A product that restores mobility.
I ended up at Heraeus thanks to my thesis. The topic I chose brought me into contact with experts at the company. I learned that Heraeus is not only a leader in precious metal processing, but also plays an important role in pharmaceuticals and medical devices. Today, I work in one of these areas. I am proud to work for a company that improves the lives of many people in the long term. For me, working in the laboratory is more than just checking a product. Our bone cement brings hope, movement, and life. Sometimes you are reminded of this during a simple conversation while playing sports.”
